About KTSC
The Kona Traffic Safety Committee (KTSC) represents the people who live in and commute through North and South Kona communities and is comprised of volunteer participants from the North and South Kona Districts. KTSC is one of five active traffic safety committees in the County of Hawai’i. KTSC works directly with government entiites by providing recommendations about the traffic safety impacts of pending development applications and about how road development policies effect traffic safety issues.
KTSC meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Kailua View Estates Recereation Center, located at 75-280 Nani Kailua Drive, just mauka of the Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway Extension intersection. KTSC members are those people who are interested in improving traffic safety conditions in the Kona Districts and who participate in KTSC meetings. All interested persons from North and South Kona are welcome and invited to participate in the monthy KTSC meetings.
Periodically, the participating KTSC group elects a Chair Person, or Co-Chairs, as the group established in May of 2004. The current Co-Chairs are Jim Cohn and Barbara Scott. Jim is the KTSC representative on the County Highway Safety Council, where KTSC participates in making recommendations to the Mayor on various County Highway issues. Lil Beaufrere is the KTSC representative to the Governor’s Highway Safety Council, where State Highway safety legislation is considered. Joel Gimpel is the Public Relations Chair and composes comments for KTSC collaboration and submission to government agencies regarding the traffic safety impacts of proposed development and road projects.
This blog site is available for Kona traffic safety discussions and will follow courtesy protocol – no inflammatory rhetoric of any kind will be tolerated (that is reserved for when we are stuck in traffic with windows rolled up and no one can hear us).
Posts are welcome from all.
